Dr Gerhard Nortje has twenty years’ consulting experience in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Tanzania, specialising in conservation and agricultural Soil Science. His focus is to promote the sustainable management of soil in cooperation with policy-makers, the public, conservation managers and farmers. Previously he coordinated soil and horticultural research for the Subtropical Fruit Industry in South Africa. Currently Gerhard is Senior Lecturer in Environmental Sciences/Soil Science in the Department of Environmental Sciences, at the University of South Africa. His research focusses on sustainable soil management of protected areas, as well as fertilizer management for Avocado and Macadamia.
