Profile
My areas of interest being information needs and information seeking behaviour, collection development, knowledge management, library automation, information literacy, e-resource and services, Web 2.0, digital library, etc., I feel I would be able to continue my productive work on these aspects of library and information science/libraries. I have already published many research papers in international journals and conference proceedings on different aspects of libraries. I have also authored a book on Collection and Services in IARI and GBPUAT Libraries published in Germany. Apart from these, I have also published two articles in Fiji Times such as Library of Opportunities, and Digital Resources Global Library for all to use, as well as some more in FNU newsletter. I have reviewed many manuscripts for international journals, and I am a member of editorial board of LIS journals, Scientific editorial board member, Conference advisory board member, Professional association member (CILIP-UK, FIPO-Fiji, FLA-Fiji), Member of Library Working Group of AHTIPI (Association of Heads of Tertiary Institutes of the Pacific Islands), Member of FHEC for LIS program evaluation, Member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) for Research, Knowledge and Information (RKI) Community, and so on. So, I am highly enthusiastic that it would be a good opportunity to carry on my administrative, teaching, and research work on the same line with true work spirit. In addition, I have not only attended various conferences, seminars, and workshops, but also organized and facilitated many professional workshops in regards of e-resources searching, plagiarism, Turnitin, Refworks flow, Horizon integrated information management systems, exceptional customer services, etc. I have also facilitated workshops and lectures with the cooperation of US embassy, Sage Publishing, Taylor & Francis Publishing, Emerald Publishing, etc. Apart from these, I have played a key role in developing Library and Information Systems program (from 500 to 700 levels) and have also developed information research skills or information literacy modules, and teaching materials for them. The LIS program was developed to uplift the LIS status in Fiji. In order to further strengthen, I also teach LIS, COM, and LNG classes. Besides, PG Diploma and Master programme is being developed to upgrade the qualification of LIS professionals not only in Fiji but also in other nearby countries such as Solomon Island. I have supported to university’s visions by contributing in almost all the activities such as Senior Management Group, Support Services Management Group, SENATE, Strategic Planning meetings, College Exam Board, Staff recruitment panel, University Library Advisory Committee, many more committees, and so on. I also provided a vision and leadership to library services by developing the standards library policies (such as Policy on unacceptable behaviour and unacceptable use of library facilities, Library membership and circulation policy for FNU community, Library membership and circulation policy for external community, Inter-Library Loan policy, Collection Development policy/guidelines, and Policy on Bags in the library) and standards operating ISO procedures, by completing projects (such as Horizon deployment and data cleaning/entering project, Centralization of technical services - resource acquisition and resource processing, new carrels, user workstations and express OPAC, Library web presence, Computers in all libraries for users, Electronic security system, E-Resources development and their remote access via EZ proxy, Libraries Space Extension-Nasinu and Lautoka, plan for new main library, MOU with SPC library and Forum Secretariat library, AGLINET Membership-The FNU library became the first member of AGLINET from Pacific region, CTA Funding to FNU for accessing TEEAL, Free access of Electronic Therapeutics Guideline (eTG) Complete provided to FNU, Book Donation Projects for FNU, ISSN/ISBN for books/newsletters/journals published in FNU, Turnitin deployment across FNU and integration with moodle, Learning Commons Project, Develop research space and print and e-resources for PhD and PG research scholars, etc.), and by supervising more than 80 staff. On these bases, Fiji National University Library system became the First ISO 9001:2008 certified in the South Pacific. Many projects are in process which will be beneficial for Fiji National University. In 2012, I was promoted as Deputy University Librarian because of my outstanding performance of 2011. Before FNU, I worked at Noida Institute of Engineering & Technology, G. Noida, Uttar Pradesh Technical University, India; and D.P.B.S. (PG) College, Bulandshahr, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, India, as Librarian and Assistant Librarian in India respectively. Throughout my professional career, I have been known for my hard work and patience. With my humble nature, positive interaction and strong communication skills, I don’t take much time to become well known among people working around me. I possess a very strong decision making ability which contributes significantly to my success. I always focus on my goals and try to achieve maximum in a short time. I have pursued every single opportunity to guide the user community at any level. My ability, knowledge, innovativeness, forward-thinking, and overall strategic directions to establish and monitor library goals and priorities in support of the University Strategic Plan are the prime reasons for my successful stay at Fiji National University for more than 7 years.
